              Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

              Pre-College Programs is seeking innovative, student-oriented candidates to encourage, engage and excite students. Successful candidates must be able to provide a rich counseling and academic program to high school students.

              Specific responsibilities include:
              Counsels and advises students on career possibilities and post-secondary opportunities. Works on an individual and group basis with students to provide social and personal counseling.

              Help program students to complete post-secondary admissions applications and financial-aid forms. Plans and coordinates workshops and activities for students, parents and schools. Monitors and manages student records according to program specifications.

              Assist in organizing, developing, implementing, and administering social, educational, and service-learning programs/activities for Upward Bound Programs’ participants.

              Deliver student recruitment and informational sessions for grant-determined school district population, parent/student events, and community stakeholders.

              Assist with developing and implementing academic year and summer residential programming in compliance with federal guidelines as outlined in grant.

              Develop and maintain effective working relationships with school district, community partners, and campus and University-wide offices.

              Understand and articulate unit polices and federal grant guidelines in oral and written communication.

              Minimum Qualifications:

              Enrolled in Masters or PhD degree program in Counseling Psychology, school counselor, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or related discipline required. Plus, one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.


              Experience providing direct college preparation services to 9th- through 12th-grade students is preferred. Experience working with low-income, first-generation high school students from diverse backgrounds is essential. Knowledge of and experience with federally-funded TRIO programs is preferred.
              This position will require occasional evening and weekend hours, as well as occasional overnight travel. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. All CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT TO A BACKGROUND CHECK.

              Physical Demands

              Office position; sedentary work. Some lifting of testing and assessments up to 15lbs. Some standing and walking to classroom buildings across campus.
