              Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

              The primary responsibility of the Graduate Assistant in the ECE Undergraduate Office (ECE-UGO) is to provide academic advising support to undergraduate students majoring in electrical and computer engineering. This will include updating academic records, answering advising inquiries (email, online advising forms, and in-person), conducting group advising, and meeting with students for in-person advising as needed.

              Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for advising incoming students during summer and winter orientation programs, assisting with related administrative matters, helping coordinate and execute various procedures and events related to academics and student activities, participating in recruitment and outreach activities, help staff the ECE-UGO front desk, and other related duties as assigned. Assistants are required to work normal University operating days throughout the year.

              Minimum Qualifications:

              Must be enrolled full-time in a UMCP graduate school program currently or for the upcoming spring semester. Enrollment in a Higher Education-related degree program (such as Student Affairs, Higher Education, or International Education) is required. Experience working in academic/student affairs, student programming, or work with undergraduate populations can be substituted for enrollment in a Higher Education-related degree program. University of Maryland experience is a plus, but not required. Teaching experience is a plus, but not required. The successful applicant must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), as well as a strong attention to detail, and must be dependable and courteous. Successful applicants must be extremely flexible with work hours (including the occasional afternoon/evening) and be able to work effectively in a busy environment both collaboratively and independently. Must be available to work required orientation days/times during the summer and winter terms. This assistantship runs throughout the entire year. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering requires work hours to be fulfilled between 8:30am and 4:30 pm weekdays (unless otherwise stipulated) and observes the University holiday schedule.

              The salary range starts at $17,802 and is based on a 9-month appointment. Starting salary is based on the current year in your academic program as denoted by your graduate Step level. Full-time appointees are eligible for tuition remission of up to 10 credits for fall/spring semesters, 8 credits during the summer term and 4 credits for winter term. In addition to salary, graduate advisors are eligible to receive health insurance.
