              Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

              Description: MLAW’s Law and Society Minor is an academic minor in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) for upper level students enrolled in any major at UMCP. More information is available at http://mlaw.umd.edu.

              In fall 2019, MLAW enrolled its sixth cohort of 75 students in each program. The students in L&S will be exploring the relationship between law and society through a series of required and elective courses and an internship.

              This GA position serves as the point person for one 3 credit course per semester that includes discussion sections, and two courses per semester without discussion sections. The courses will be taught by faculty from BSOS and the Carey School of Law for MLAW students.

              Responsibilities also include providing administrative assistance and event support to MLAW Programs.

              Time Requirement: Twenty hours per week, including at least 6 office hours/week.

              Occasional evenings and weekend work (within those 20 hours) may be required for field trips and special events.

              Compensation: The Graduate Assistantship payment for this position is set by the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. For the 2019-20 academic year, the 12-month compensation rates are: GAI $22,621.76, GAII $23,362.60, and GAIII $24,373.38. This position includes tuition remission.

              Duties: The GA will be expected to:
              ? Effectively lead discussion sections in law and society from a sociological and legal perspective
              ? Grade exams and assignments
              ? Record and maintain accurate student participation records
              ? Provide program and curricular support
              ? Assist with administrative work as needed
              ? Maintain effective communication with staff and students
              ? Attend and provide event support
              ? Provide classroom (face to face and virtually) logistic support
              ? Other duties as assigned
