              Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

              The faculty member will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide education programs related to family and community health initiatives on resiliency, well-being, mental, and behavioral health within the University of Maryland Extension (UME). Specifically this position will provide leadership and delivery of educational programming related to mental and behavioral health programs for youth, adults, families, and communities. The Specialist will serve as a resource for UME to identify and communicate critical statewide and national issues in mental/behavioral and community health, assist with community needs assessment, and conduct program evaluation and applied research related to these priorities.

              The Specialist is expected to be a part of the AGNR and UME faculty team(s) with the intent to conduct interdisciplinary work. Collaboration with the School of Public Health, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the 1890 Land-Grant partner, is highly encouraged. The faculty member will be on track for tenure and promotion to a higher rank in accordance with University policy and UME tenure guidelines within a defined time frame.

              The Specialist will report to the Assistant Director and Program Leader of the Family and Consumer Sciences Program

              Minimum Qualifications:

              ? MS Degree in a field of study related to public health, family science, social work, community health, counseling, nursing, health science, marriage and family therapy or a related health field of study.
              ? Experience in a position related to this work, or demonstrated ability and skill in community-based educational program planning, delivery, implementation, and evaluation.
              ? Demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences in programming.
              ? Demonstrated evidence of excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills, including strong organization and time management skills to establish goals and priorities, manage multiple projects, accomplish goals, and meet deadlines.
              ? Demonstrated ability to lead and work efficiently as a team member, and develop multi-disciplinary collaborations.
              ? Proficiency in the use of technology such as Google Mail system, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and other software to support program development and management, reporting, team-based communications, and others.
              ? Ability to document program impacts and produce scholarly publications based on programming.
              ? Personal transportation and valid driver’s license required. Must be willing to travel throughout the state of Maryland as needed. Overnight and national travel may be needed on occasion.
              ? Flexible work schedule required for delivering evening and weekend educational programs and activities as determined by clientele availability and needs.
              ? This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check. Employment is contingent up on successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.

              Preferences:

              ? Ph.D. preferred in a relevant field of study.
              ? An established record of external funding; scholarly publications, and a background in applied research and program evaluation.
              ? Extension or similar work experience in formal or non-formal community education settings

              Responsibilities
              ? Develop, conduct, and evaluate innovative educational programs that meet current and projected needs mental and behavioral health needs in the community for statewide efforts (i.e., family resiliency and well-being, mental health promotion, suicide prevention, substance abuse, strengthening families, community health).
              ? Provide support to County Extension Faculty in the areas of mental and behavioral health program.
              ? Develop community-based workshops and seminars, as well as webinars, webcasts, blended learning, and other technologies that is evidence-based and is targeted for educators, students, health professionals and the public.
              ? Conduct applied research that results in publication in peer-reviewed journals as the foundation for educational programming.
              ? Collect, document, and report programming outputs and impacts to demonstrate program effectiveness, to produce scholarly publications, and to guide future program priorities.
              ? Seek external funding through grants and contracts, including grant writing and submission processes.
              ? Provide leadership for grant-funded project to include management of project staff and administration of funds
              in compliance with UMD personnel and fiscal policies.
              ? Develop collaboration and partnerships with federal, state, and county agencies and stakeholders.
              ? Actively engage with communities to develop programming to address mental and behavioral health as well as other community health issues.

              The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
              ? This position frequently presents and exchanges information through oral and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
              ? A routine part of this position’s responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from field research plots and teaching/event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set up and teardown of research machinery, project displays, tables, and chairs will be necessary at many teaching sites.
              ? This position requires the employee to work outdoors conducting field research, delivering programs, and teaching at events. This may occur during very hot and/or inclement weather.
              ? Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and presentations.
